President Ursula von der Leyen on the future of EU-China relations

The EPC and MERICS were delighted to co-host a keynote address on EU-China Relations by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

De-risking, not De-coupling
Europe and China at this watershed moment

China is of vital importance for the global economy and for addressing global challenges such as climate change.  However, bilateral ties with Europe are being tested - a trend accelerated in recent years against a backdrop of growing global uncertainties, conflicts and tensions. This has led to calls for Europe to look at the state of its relations with China and to consider whether – and how - it needs to de-risk the relationship.

President von der Leyen laid out her vision on the future of EU-China relations.
