MERICS China Forecast 2020
Germany
2020 will be a busy year in Europe-China relations. Beijing is due to host EU leaders at the annual EU-China summit as well as heads of government of 17 central and eastern European countries for the 17+1 summit. In addition, President Xi Jinping is expected in Leipzig in September to meet with leaders of all 27 EU member states for an exceptional summit organized under the German presidency of the Council of the EU.
On February 28, 2020, we hosted the MERICS China Forecast 2020 event for the first time, in collaboration with the German newspaper Handelsblatt. The event provided a platform for exchange on the most important political and economic trends in China over the year 2020 and their impact on Europe. The participants of three panels discussed topics such as the Corona and the Hong Kong crises, China's growth troubles and innovation dynamics and the prospects for EU-China relations.
MERICS also presented the findings from a survey among leading European experts and professionals on key developments in Europe-China relations.
